FAQs on Title 42s

What is an Oklahoma Title 42?

A Title 42 is a process that is done in order to retrieve a title to any vehicle (any vehicle that is required to have a title, by law in Oklahoma) such as a car, truck, motorcycle, scooter, boat/boat motor, van, RV, trailer, semi, mobile home, ATV, UTV, snowmobile, manufactured home, etc. Contact Title Work by Sharon to see if this process will work for you.

Is it still possible to do a Title 42?

Yes! There have been many changes to the Title 42 process in the last year, and the laws have gotten much more strict. We have been doing them for the last 25+ years, and have a lot of experience with the process. There are many people who stopped doing the Title 42 process, and were not able to withstand the changes that the Oklahoma Tax Commission now requires. However, we have done out homework, and have been able to uphold all of the new standards that the Oklahoma Tax Commission has set for Title 42s. If you need a Title 42, you're in the right place!

How long does the process take? We will start the process as soon as we get the necessary information from you regarding the vehicle and your particular situation, as long as the payment for the job, but it can take anywhere from 10-12 weeks (sometimes longer) to get an approval depending on how long it takes to get through the Oklahoma Tax Commission. **KEEP IN MIND, we are dealing with many different government agencies during this process (USPS, OK Tax Commission, Courthouses, etc. We cannot ALWAYS control how much time the process takes! It is very important that we are given enough VALID information on the vehicle in order to obtain a new title for you in a timely manner.)

Why does it cost more for out of state titles?

Due to different policy and regulations of other states, Title Work by Sharon has to research and contact other states for information. Many states charge higher fees to obtain vehicle registration information that is needed to process the Title 42. This can also add time to the overall process in the beginning, due to the fact that the state of registration has to return the needed information before we can begin the notification process.

Will I actually get a title of ownership?

As soon as Title Work by Sharon sends you the Title 42 approval, you will need to take the paperwork to your local tag agency, where they will issue you a title and a tag (you have 30 days from approval date to take it to your tag agency). It is always possible for an application to be turned down, but we have worked with this process long enough to know which situations are possible or not. We will be realistic with you regarding your situation and the possibility of obtaining an ownership title for your vehicle.

I have a vehicle that was towed in to my shop and the owner never picked it up or paid for the towing. How can I get my money back?

Filing a Title 42 for the vehicle is the only way to get your money back, if the owner refuses to pay or abandons the vehicle. The Title 42 paperwork will bill the owner for the towing, the cost of hiring us to complete your Title 42, and number of days of storage. This process will allow you obtain a title in your name, so that you can sell the vehicle to cover your costs (If the owner still does not contact you in order to pay the required bill). You can do with the vehicle as you please, once we receive the approved Title 42 paperwork.

Am I required to sell the vehicle once the Title 42 process is complete?

You are not required to sell the vehicle. Many businesses/individuals choose to complete the Title 42 process because they want to get back the money they have put in to the vehicle thus far. So, they gain ownership, and sell the vehicle to make that money back. However, you are allowed to do what ever you please with your new vehicle.
